“Pensare il teatro” (Thinking the Theatre). Theatre Life and the Work of the Historians in the 1980s

PDF (Italiano)

Abstract

In 2024, Titivillus published Pensare il teatro (Thinking the Theatre), edited by Roberto Cuppone; the book presents, for the first time, a collective work originally circulated in 1987 as a preprint for the Ph.D. in Performing Arts Studies at the University of Bologna, signed by Fabrizio Cruciani, Claudio Meldolesi, Franco Ruffini, and Ferdinando Taviani. In this contribution, I offer information and reflections regarding this significant collective scholarly endeavour, linking it to the trends and debates surrounding the historian’s work in the 1980s, as well as to its theatrical contexts (the Santarcangelo di Romagna festival, the ISTA - International School of Theatre Anthropology) and to the founding of the journal «Teatro e Storia» in 1986.
