Abstract

Nicola Savarese (Rome, 16 December 1945 - 20 June 2024) was a friend, a colleague, a great scholar and an artist. We will celebrate his memory during a study day to be held on 16 December 2025, the day he would have turned eighty, and with a book. In this number of «Teatro e Storia», we are only publishing what can be termed as ‘family memories’: those of Franco Ruffini, who founded this journal together with Savarese and others; Valentina Venturini, to whom Nicola entrusted the publication of the book he had been working on up to a few days before his death; Eugenio Barba, who worked with him on two books that have been translated across the world, and his son, Pierangelo Pompa Savarese. We have added an anomalous work by Nicola Savarese, diverging from his main themes, the Laudatio for the degree ad Honorem (Roma Tre University, 16 February 2005) conferred on Ariane Mnouchkine, and finally, a list, which he himself defined as ‘napoleonic’, of the projects he was working on in his last years, and even in his last days: conceived on a grand scale, like everything he did.
